After infielder Wyatt Mathisen was promoted to Indianapolis on Monday, pitcher J.T. Brubaker has learned that he too will be advancing to the AAA level, this according to Pirates Prospects’ Sean McCool.

Coming off a subpar year in 2017 with the Altoona Curve, Brubaker pitched in the Arizona Fall League and performed well against some of baseball’s elite prospects. He returned to Altoona to begin 2018.

Brubaker is one of several Pirates prospects who have been outstanding in the early portion of this season. In six starts for the Curve, he put up a stellar 1.80 ERA, along with a 2.44 FIP. Not only is Brubaker getting strikeouts this year (9.0 K/9), but he’s relying more on the two-seam fastball and inducing groundballs at a 64% clip.
