The Pirates made a minor move on Thursday, trading outfielder Eury Perez to the Miami Marlins, this according to John Dreker of Pirates Prospects. Nothing was announced on the Pirates return, but my guess is that they likely received cash considerations.
Perez signed with the Pirates last offseason on a minor league deal. The 27-year-old has played all of his games this season with AAA Indianapolis, mostly as a reserve outfielder. Perez performed very well in limited action for the Indians, hitting .336 and posting an OPS of .833 in 155 plate appearances. He likely wasn’t going to join the Pirates this year, so the trade would allow him to get a better opportunity to play with the Marlins, perhaps as a September call up.
