Just a day after taking Shane Baz, the Pirates have agreed to sign their first round selection, this according to Mark Berman of FOX26 in Houston.
Baz becomes the first prep pitcher selected in the first round by the Pirates since Jameson Taillon in 2010. The 6’3 right-hander pitched his high school ball at Concordia Lutheran in Texas, the same school that Pirates prospect Ke’Bryan Hayes played at. Baz’s repertoire includes a mid-90’s fastball that can reach 98 mph, as well as a cutter and slider, both of which could be solid pitches.
