The Pirates have announced that Tyler Glasnow has been optioned to AAA Indianapolis, which means Jameson Taillon will take his spot in the rotation, once he is officially activated from the disabled list on Monday.
After being selected in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft, Glasnow displayed dominance as he rose through the system. He was named the Pirates Minor League Pitcher of the Year in both 2013 and 2014. By 2015, he was the top prospect in the organization.
Glasnow received his call up to this bigs in July of last year. He posted a 4.24 ERA, along with a 1.50 WHIP in seven games with the Bucs, four of which were starts. The Pirates had an open competition during Spring Training this year for the fifth spot in the rotation, and Glasnow won the spot. With the expectation level pretty high, things could not have gone any worse for him, posting an ERA of 7.45 and a 5.82 Fielding Independent Pitching in 12 starts, while showing very little to almost no progression.
