Pirates Designate Pat Light for Assignment

By Jason Shetler

Pitcher Pat Light has been designated for assignment in order to make room on the 40-man roster for Edgar Santana, the team announced.

Light was acquired by the Pirates from the Minnesota Twins in February for a player to be named later or cash considerations. The very hard-throwing righty was in competition for a bullpen spot in Spring Training, but was considered a long shot to make the big club. Light has made 22 appearances this season for AAA Indianapolis, posting a 3.76 ERA, but with a Fielding Independent Pitching of 4.48. Control issues have been a problem for him, with a 5.1 BB/9.
