Junior Lopez Suspended for Drug Prevention and Treatment Program Violation

By Jason Shetler

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Rob Biertempfel, Pirates minor league pitcher Junior Lopez has violated MiLB’s Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The punishment is a 25 game suspension.

Lopez has been in the Pirates organization since 2014, this after signing with them out of the Dominican Republic. The 25-year-old righty posted a 4.25 ERA, along with a 1.37 WHIP in 38 appearances for the Bradenton Marauders last season. Lopez is currently on the Marauders restricted list. The Pirates had a clean record last year, as no minor league players had been suspended.
