The Pirates are among several teams who have made an offer to free agent outfielder Angel Pagan, this according to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports. He is currently playing in the World Baseball Classic for Puerto Rico.
Pagan had spent the last five seasons with the San Francisco Giants, and was a key part of their two World Series championship clubs in 2012 and 2014. The 35-year-old switch-hitter posted a .750 OPS in 129 games played with the Giants last year.
Although Pagan would give the Pirates a true fourth outfielder from an experience standpoint, his defense has been average at best over the past few years. It’s likely that Pagan would want to be an everyday regular, which obviously means Pittsburgh wouldn’t be a strong option for him.
