According to Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown, Josh Bell is slated to make his 2017 Spring Training debut on Monday when the Pirates host the New York Yankees in Bradenton. The game will be televised on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh.
Bell spent the past couple weeks getting himself back into baseball activities, as he was recovering from minor knee surgery that he underwent on February 1st. The plan will most likely be for him to be a designated hitter in the early going of games that he starts. Barring any setback, Bell should be ready by Opening Day. The Pirates open the season in Boston against the Red Sox, so it’s certainly reasonable to think that Bell would DH in all three games at Fenway Park.
