The Pirates have announced that Jason Rogers cleared waivers and has been outrighted to AAA Indianapolis.
Rogers was acquired by the Pirates from the Milwaukee Brewers last offseason in a deal for outfielder Keon Broxton and pitcher Trey Supak. He was in competition for the final bench spot in Spring Training, but lost out to Cole Figueroa.
Indianapolis is where Rogers played mostly at in 2016, as he batted .263 and posted a .709 OPS in 105 games. He also appeared in 23 games with the Pirates, most of which came as a pinch-hitter. Two weeks ago, Rogers was designated for assignment after the Pirates had claimed pitcher Nefi Ogando off waivers from the Miami Marlins.
