According to MLB Network insider Jon Morosi, the Seattle Mariners asked the Pirates about Andrew McCutchen earlier this offseason, but talks didn’t advance far between both sides.

It’s not a surprise that the Mariners are expressing some level of interest in McCutchen, given the uncertainty of their outfield situation, especially now with Nelson Cruz being the primary DH.

While McCutchen struggled for much of the 2016 season, he did however perform like his old self in August and September, posting an .854 OPS. It’ll be interesting to see if the Pirates and Mariners pick up talks again at the Winter Meetings in December.
