The Arizona Fall League had its annual Fall Stars Game Saturday night, which was televised on MLB Network. Pirates pitching prospect Edgar Santana got a chance to pitch in the game.
Santana made his appearance in the ninth inning and was looking to record the final two outs. He did so and threw just eight pitches. The last batter Santana faced was Yankees prospect Miguel Andujar, who he overmatched with a 97 mph fastball and a couple of sharp sliders, one of which he got Andujar to swing out of the strikezone to end the game.
Between pitching across three levels this year with Bradenton, Altoona and Indianapolis, as well as performing very well in the AFL for the Surprise Saguaros, Santana has quickly been emerging as one of the top relief arms in the system. There’s a good chance of him joining the Pirates bullpen at some point in 2017.
