The Pirates announce that Dovydas Neverauskas and Jose Osuna have been added to the 40-man roster. Both would have been eligible for minor league free agency.
Neverauskas began 2016 for the Altoona Curve. The native of Lithuania pitched in 22 games with the Curve, posting a 2.57 ERA along with a 0.82 WHIP. He got promoted to the Indianapolis Indians in June where he posted an ERA of 3.60 with a 1.57 WHIP in 25 appearances. Neverauskas represented the Pirates at this year’s Futures Game in San Diego. He was likely going to join the Pirates as a September call up, but those plans changed after news came out that him and infielder Gift Ngoepe were arrested in Toledo, Ohio because of a bar altercation. Neverauskas should return to Indianapolis to begin the 2017 season.
Osuna was also with Altoona to start the year. The 23-year-old received his promotion to Indianapolis on the final day of June. In 133 games played for both affiliates, Osuna batted .279 with a .787 OPS. MLB Pipeline currently has him ranked as the 28th best prospect in the Pirates system. He will start out next season with Indianapolis.
