The Pirates have announced that they have received pitchers Jake Brentz and Pedro Vasquez from the Seattle Mariners to complete the Arquimedes Caminero deal.
After being a key component of the Pirates bullpen last year, Caminero just wasn’t as consistent for the Bucs this season. He had a 3.51 ERA, but his Fielding Independent Pitching was higher at 4.75 and he allowed a ton of batters to reach base with a 1.66 WHIP in 39 appearances. Caminero was traded to Seattle on August 6th. He’s appeared in 13 games with the Mariners, posting a 3.86 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
Brentz was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays as an 11th round selection in 2013. The 21-year-old left-hander was one of three pitchers who were dealt to the Mariners last season in the Mark Lowe deal. Brentz has posted a 5.32 ERA this year in 20 games combined with the M’s A ball and AAA affiliates.
Vasquez signed with the Mariners last year out of the Dominican Republic. The 20-year-old righty has pitched well this season, as he’s put up an 2.26 ERA along with a 0.95 WHIP and a .229 batting average against in 71.2 combined innings with the AZL Mariners and Low A Clinton.
