According to Pirates Prospects John Dreker, outfielder Jeremias Portorreal and catcher Gabriel Brito have been promoted to the Gulf Coast League Pirates.
Portorreal was signed by the Pirates out of the Dominican Republic in 2013 for $375,000. After posting a combined .625 OPS in the Dominican Summer League in 2014 and 2015, he performed much better in the DSL this season with a .781 OPS, and had a 19 game on base streak during the month of July. Portorreal has played primarily as a right fielder.
Brito signed with the Pirates in 2014 out of the Dominican Republic for $200,000. His on base skills for a catcher have been outstanding, as he put up a .415 on base percentage in the DSL last year and a .383 OBP in the DSL this season. Brito has also been solid behind the plate, throwing out baserunners at a 33% clip.
