The Pirates have promoted Elvis Escobar from High A Bradenton to AA Altoona, this according to Sean McCool of Pirates Prospects.
Escobar signed with the Pirates in 2011 out of Venezuela for $570,000, which is considered a large amount of signing bonus money for an amateur free agent. The 21-year-old outfielder played in 92 games this season with Bradenton where he batted .272 with a .703 OPS, but is coming off a terrific month of July in which he hit .353 along with an OPS of .868. Escobar will take the place of Harold Ramirez as the center fielder in Altoona. Ramirez of course was dealt at the trade deadline to the Toronto Blue Jays as part of the Drew Hutchison deal.
