According to Tim Williams of Pirates Prospects, Edgar Santana has been promoted from AA Altoona to AAA Indianapolis.
The Pirates signed Santana out of the Dominican Republic in 2013. The 24-year-old righty has quickly been emerging as one of the better relief arms in the system. His repertoire includes a mid-90’s fastball along with a plus slider.
Santana began this year pitching in High A for the Bradenton Marauders. He made nine appearances with them, posting an 0.81 ERA, a K/9 of 8.1 and a .169 batting average against. On May 10th, Santana was promoted to Altoona where he posted a 2.83 ERA, an 8.5 K/9 and holding opponents to a .216 average in 21 appearances.
