Tim Williams of Pirates Prospects has reported that Nick Kingham will be making his 2016 season debut today on a rehab assignment for the Gulf Coast League Pirates.
Kingham is recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in May of last year. A fourth round selection in 2010, he is rated by MLB Pipeline as the Pirates 12th best prospect in the system.
During his six years in the organization, Kingham has posted a 3.35 ERA along with a 1.19 WHIP and a .239 batting average against. Prior to the surgery, he was pitching for AAA Indianapolis, and would have been called up to Pittsburgh last season. Because it’s July and Kingham would obviously have to work himself back to full strength, it’s likely that he’ll join the Pirates at some point next year.
