John Dreker of Pirates Prospects mentioned on Twitter late last night that Jorge Rondon has cleared waivers and was sent outright to AAA Indianapolis.
The Pirates claimed Rondon off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles back in late October. The 28-year-old native of Venezuela has made 24 appearances this season with Indianapolis, posting an ERA of 1.91 along with a 1.12 WHIP.
Rondon was called up by the Pirates two weeks ago after Juan Nicasio was put on the restricted list. He pitched in only two games with the Bucs and allowed a total of seven runs. In terms of velocity, he averaged a very impressive 96.8 mph on his fastball. Rondon was designated for assignment last Friday when Nicasio returned.
