Wilfredo Boscan has been recalled from AAA Indianapolis, while Curtis Partch will be optioned back to Indy, the Pirates announced today.
Boscan is going to make his first big league start tonight versus the San Francisco Giants, as he takes the place of Juan Nicasio, who was put on the restricted list over the weekend. He was scheduled to start for Indianapolis tonight, so it becomes a convient roster move. Boscan has made five relief appearances for the Pirates this season, posting a 2.92 ERA along with a 1.14 WHIP.
Partch signed with the Pirates as a minor league free agent in November. The 29-year-old right-hander has spent most of the year pitching in the Indianapolis bullpen, as he’s put up a 1.36 ERA with a WHIP of 0.97 in 21 appearances. Partch was called up by the Pirates this past weekend to serve as an extra reliever. He made his first appearance with them in Sunday night’s game against the Chicago Cubs where he allowed three earned runs.
