On Friday, MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo came out with a list of the ten best prospects playing in short season leagues. Pirates first round selection Will Craig made the list coming in at #7.
Craig was taken by the Pirates as a third baseman with the 22nd overall pick in this year’s draft out of Wake Forest. The former ACC Player of the Year signed with the Bucs on Wednesday for a little more than $2.2 million. Craig displayed tremendous on base ability and power this season for the Demon Deacons, posting a .537 OBP, while hitting 16 homers. Craig has the arm strength to be at third base, but most ultimately see him as a first baseman due to his size. He’ll be starting off his pro career in the New York-Penn League for the West Virginia Black Bears.
