According to MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo, the Pirates have agreed to sign their fifth round pick Blake Cederlind for $285,000, which is below slot money ($318,800).

Cederlind was drafted out of Merced College. The 20-year-old right-hander throws a mid-90’s fastball that can top 97 mph. His other pitches include a curveball and a changeup. Cederlind dealt with control issues during his college career, so he would be considered a project right now, but his solid upside seems intriguing enough to become a potential impact arm in the Pirates system.
