Pirates Director of Minor League Operations Larry Broadway told John Dreker of Pirates Prospects that Gage Hinsz will be making his season debut on Friday for the West Virginia Power.
Hinsz was selected by the Pirates in the 11th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Billings West High School in Montana. The 20-year-old right-hander agreed to a signing bonus of $580,000, which was well above slot money. He pitched last season for the Bristol Pirates where he posted a 3.79 ERA and held opposing batters to a .252 average in ten games, nine of which were starts. Hinsz throws a low-90’s fastball along with a sharp curveball, which could be a plus pitch, and a changeup that is currently a work in progress.
