One former first round pick will be replacing another, as Cole Tucker has been promoted to the Bradenton Marauders to take the place of Kevin Newman, who will be missing extensive time with a left orbital injury.
Tucker began last season with the West Virginia Power, which came as a surprise since he wasn’t even a calendar year removed from being drafted out of high school. His season came to an end in August after having labrum surgery. Tucker made his 2016 season debut for West Virginia a couple weeks ago. The return was much sooner than most anticipated. In 15 games for the Power, he hit .252 and had a .750 OPS. Tucker was likely going to be promoted to Bradenton this year anyway, but it probably wasn’t going to be until July or August, as it would have been a corresponding move for Newman’s promotion to AA for the Altoona Curve.
