The Pirates have announced that Wilfredo Boscan has been called up to join the bullpen. Cory Luebke will be headed back to AAA Indianapolis as the corresponding move.
Boscan signed a minor league deal with the Pirates prior to last season. The 26-year-old right hander spent most of 2015 with Indianapolis. He was called up to Pittsburgh on three different occasions, but was never used. The Pirates brought back Boscan on another minor league contract last offseason. He was pitching very well in the Indians rotation, as he posted a 2.48 ERA along with a 1.08 WHIP in seven starts.
Luebke began 2016 in the Pirates bullpen. In mid-April, he was put on the disabled list with tightness in his right hamstring, and made several rehab appearances with Indianapolis. Luebke had just rejoined the Pirates last week, but he struggled. In his four appearances with the Bucs, Luebke has a 14.73 ERA.
