According to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Pirates will be calling up Alen Hanson, once Starling Marte goes on paternity leave.
Hanson has been one of the top middle infield prospects in the Pirates system since 2013. The 23-year-old switch-hitter entered this season as the Pirates tenth best prospect overall by MLB Pipeline. Hanson is batting .288 along with a .707 OPS in 27 games with AAA Indianapolis. Defensively, he’s been playing mostly left field as of late, and has also played second base and third base. It’ll be interesting to see if the Pirates give Hanson regular time, or just have Matt Joyce starting when Marte leaves the team.
