Jonathan Mayo’s Mock Draft has Pirates Taking a High School Infielder

By Jason Shetler

On Friday, MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo came out with his mock draft. The Pirates have the 22nd overall pick this year, and Mayo has them taking Nolan Jones.

Jones is a shortstop/third baseman from Holy Ghost Prep High School in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. He’s a 6-4, left-handed batter, who Mayo considers one of the best pure hitters among high school players. Jones currently has a commitment to play at the University of Virginia. Last month, Baseball America’s mock draft had the Pirates going with outfielder and Pittsburgh area native Alex Kirilloff.
