Pirates Trade Mel Rojas to Braves

By Jason Shetler

According to John Dreker of Pirates Prospects, the Pirates have traded minor league outfielder Mel Rojas to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash.

Rojas was selected by the Pirates in the third round of the 2010 MLB Draft. The son of the former Montreal Expos closer had solid potential upon being drafted, but just couldn’t seem to put it all together, as he posted a .688 OPS during his seven seasons in the Pirates system. This season, Rojas played in only 12 games with AAA Indianapolis, and had a very woeful .214 on base percentage.
