Tim Williams of Pirates Prospects has reported that Brandon Waddell will be promoted to the Altoona Curve, and is going to make his debut for them on Wednesday. Fellow lefty pitching prospect Stephen Tarpley is set to make his season debut this week for the Bradenton Marauders after recovering from an oblique injury, so Waddell’s promotion becomes a corresponding move.
The Pirates chose Waddell in last year’s draft as a fifth round selection out of the University of Virginia. The 21-year-old southpaw was lights out in April for the Marauders, as he posted a 0.93 ERA in five starts, which was second lowest in the Florida State League. In addition, Waddell put up a FSL best 0.52 WHIP and held opponents to a .133 batting average.
