The Pirates have announced that Jason Rogers has been called up from AAA Indianapolis while Cole Figueroa will be heading to Indy as the corresponding move.
Rogers was acquired by the Pirates last offseason from the Milwaukee Brewers. Despite posting a 120 OPS+ for the Brew Crew in 2015, Rogers had to compete for a spot off the bench in Spring Training. He didn’t make the Opening Day roster, and was sent to Indianapolis to begin the season. Rogers was tearing apart AAA pitching, as he batted .366 and had an OPS of 1.118 in 11 games played. He’ll now occupy first base along with John Jaso following the DFA/release of Michael Morse.
Figueroa also joined the Pirates this past offseason by signing a minor league deal. He beat out both Rogers and Pedro Florimon for the final bench spot at the end of Spring Training. Figueroa was used mainly as a pinch-hitter in eight games.
