The Indianapolis Indians have been the AAA affiliate of the Pirates since 2005, and this year is projected to be arguably the best Indians team in their 114 years as a minor league franchise. Manager Dean Treanor is entering his sixth season with the club.
Pitching: The Indians will boast an all prospect rotation consisting of top prospect Tyler Glasnow along with Jameson Taillon, Trevor Williams, Steven Brault and Chad Kuhl. They will also have some power arm relievers in the bullpen with Trey Haley, Jorge Rondon, Curtis Partch and Guido Knudson.
Infield: Pirates #3 prospect Josh Bell will be the primary first baseman. The middle infielders are Alen Hanson (2B) and Adam Frazier (SS). 2015 Pirates Minor League Player of the Year Max Moroff will play mostly third base. Jason Rogers should get most of his at-bats as the DH. Catcher Elias Diaz will begin the year on the DL with elbow discomfort, but shouldn’t miss too much time.
Outfield: The starting outfield for the Tribe is going to be Willy Garcia, Danny Ortiz and Mel Rojas. Veteran minor leaguer Antoan Richardson will serve as the extra outfielder. The Pirates plan to make Hanson more versatile, so it’s possible that he could see some playing time in the outfield as well.
