General manager Neal Huntington has announced that Jared Hughes will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list with a left lat muscle strain.
Hughes has been a fixture in the Pirates bullpen since 2012. He put up another solid season last year, as he posted a 2.28 ERA along with a 169 ERA+ in 76 appearances. Hughes continues to be one of the best groundball relievers in baseball, and 2015 was no different, generating grounders at a 64% rate. My guess is that Rob Scahill will take his spot on the Opening Day roster.
