The Pirates have traded veteran lefty reliever Eric O’Flaherty to the Atlanta Braves, this according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
O’Flaherty signed a minor league deal with the Pirates in February. The 31-year-old southpaw is coming off his worst season last year when he posted an 8.10 ERA combined with the Oakland Athletics and New York Mets. Based on his past track record, O’Flaherty appeared to be a good reclamation project for the Pirates bullpen. He’ll be returning to Atlanta where he pitched for them from 2009 to 2013. The trade most likely means that Cory Luebke will be making the club out of Spring Training. Luebke has an opt-out clause in his contract, so the Pirates probably made the move for him not to use it.
