Pirates manager Clint Hurdle has announced that Gerrit Cole will make his Spring debut on Sunday in Bradenton versus the Detroit Tigers, and is scheduled to pitch two innings.
Cole dealt with inflammation to his right ribcage during a workout in January. He had been throwing bullpen sessions over the past couple weeks to build himself back up. Sunday’s game will of course be Cole’s first live game action since the National League Wild Card Game against the Chicago Cubs. He will look to build off a very strong 2015 campaign in which he finished fourth in the NL Cy Young voting.
