Tim Williams of Pirates Prospects reported on Saturday that Cole Tucker began making throws from shortstop, which would indicate that he might return much sooner than expected. Tucker believes that his timetable to return could be in April.

The Pirates sent Tucker to Low A West Virginia last year for his first full season of pro ball. The former first round pick from 2014 played in 73 games for the Power, as he hit .293 along with a .699 OPS and had 25 stolen bases. Tucker’s season ended in August after a shoulder issue led to labrum surgery. The original diagnosis of his recovery was suppose to keep him out for most, if not all of 2016, so the fact that he could return for the first month of this season is extremely remarkable.
