On Wednesday, ESPN.com’s Keith Law came out with his rankings of the Top 30 farm systems. The Pirates remained a Top 10 system, as they were ranked #8.
Tyler Glasnow of course is one of the best pitching prospects in the minors while Jameson Taillon still remains a legitimate arm, despite injury setbacks. Austin Meadows and Josh Bell are currently Top 50 prospects. Reese McGuire and Elias Diaz are both outstanding defensive catchers right now. Law is very high on the Pirates 2015 first round pick Kevin Newman, as he considered Newman the second best player entering last year’s draft, even though he was taken late first round. The Pirates appeared to make a solid selection with Ke’Bryan Hayes, who they took in the supplemental portion of the draft following Newman.
In regards to where the other NL Central systems ranked, the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers were #4 and #5 respectively, the Cincinnati Reds were just outside of the Top 10 at #12 and the St. Louis Cardinals were about middle of the road at #19.
