The Pirates have signed catcher Nate Irving to a minor league deal, this according to Baseball America.
Irving was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 34th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The former Virginia Cavalier posted just a .672 OPS during his two seasons in the Dbacks system. Irving’s caught stealing rate has been abysmal at 14%. He will likely serve as a backup catcher for one of the Pirates lower level affiliates.
