Buster Olney Ranks Pirates Rotation Seventh Best for 2016

By Jason Shetler

On Monday, ESPN’s Buster Olney released his rankings of the Top 10 starting rotations for 2016. The Pirates made the list ranking seventh best with the Mets, Indians, Cardinals, Cubs, Giants and Dodgers ranked ahead of them.

The Pirates essentially have two aces in their rotation with Gerrit Cole and Francisco Liriano. Jon Niese is an above average starter, and could really benefit from the Pirates usage of defensive shifts. While there are some concerns in the back end with Ryan Vogelsong and Jeff Locke, Olney points out Tyler Glasnow and Jameson Taillon, who should be upgrades once they get called up.
