MLB.com’s Adam Berry and Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review have reported that the Pirates have agreed to terms with pitcher Daniel Bard on a minor league deal.
Bard at one time was an elite level reliever with the Boston Red Sox, posting a 2.97 ERA along with a 161 ERA+ from 2009 to 2011. The 30-year-old right-hander however has dealt with numerous injuries and control issues, and hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2013. Bard mentioned that the Pirates history of reclamation projects made Pittsburgh an appealing destination for him.
