The Pirates have announced that Tony Sanchez has been designated for assignment as the corresponding move for Neftali Feliz to be put on the 40-man roster.
Sanchez was the Pirates first round selection in the 2009 MLB Draft. The pick was considered questionable, as most baseball publications projected him as a late first rounder. During his minor league career, Sanchez has put up good numbers offensively, posting a .357 on base percentage with a .764 OPS. His defense however has been a real thorn in the side, as he’s thrown out just 22% of opposing basestealers. The Pirates called up Sanchez in June of 2013. The numbers haven’t been good for him at the big league level, putting up a .681 OPS while throwing out only 17% of baserunners.
