The Pirates have announced that left-handed pitcher Kyle Lobstein has been acquired from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations.
Lobstein was a second round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2008 MLB Draft. In 2012, the Rays lost him in the Rule 5 Draft to the New York Mets before then being purchased by the Tigers that same day. Lobstein pitched 63.2 innings this past season for the Tigers where he posted a 5.94 ERA along with a 4.64 Fielding Independent Pitching. He’s a sinkerball pitcher, as evidence of his 52% groundball rate. Because he has two options remaining, Lobstein should begin the 2016 season in the AAA Indianapolis rotation.
