The Pirates have announced that Juan Nicasio has been signed to a one-year deal for $3 million. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports was the first to report that both sides were close to reaching a deal.
Nicasio is coming off his best season in 2015. The 29-year-old right-hander pitched in 53 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he posted a 3.86 ERA with a 2.83 Fielding Independent Pitching. Nicasio’s walk rate was high at 4.9, but he also posted a solid 10.0 K/9. His average fastball velocity this past season was impressive at 95 mph. Since Nicasio is a Super 2 player, the Pirates will have him under control for next offseason, as he’ll be arbitration eligible for a fourth time.
