ESPN’s Buster Olney has Francisco Cervelli ranked as the fourth best catcher on his Top 10 catcher’s list.
Cervelli did more than just a serviceable job in his first season with the Pirates to replace Russell Martin. The 29-year-old backstop posted a .370 on base percentage, which was second best in the National League among catchers in 2015. Cervelli threw out only 22% of baserunners, but he was still rated as one of the best defensive catchers in terms of pitch framing.
