Today was the deadline for teams to add players to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft at the Winter Meetings in December. Tyler Glasnow, Josh Bell, Harold Ramirez and Max Moroff have all been protected.
Glasnow is of course the Pirates top prospect in the organization. The hard-throwing righty this year put up a 2.32 ERA along with a 1.15 WHIP and a K/9 of 11.1 in 20 combined starts for AA Altoona and AAA Indianapolis.
Bell is the Pirates third best prospect according to MLBPipeline.com. The switch-hitting first baseman played in 131 games total this past season with Altoona and Indianapolis where he posted a .393 on base percentage with an .838 OPS.
Ramirez is currently the seventh best prospect in the Pirates system by the MLBPipeline.com rankings. The Colombian born outfielder didn’t make his season debut until May and also played in the Pan-Am games in July, which limited him to only 80 games with High A Bradenton. Despite not playing a ton for the Marauders, Ramirez was still solid, as he hit .337 with an OPS of .857.
Moroff had himself a breakout season this year. The 22-year-old middle infielder posted an on base of .374 to go along with a .783 OPS in 136 games played for Altoona. Moroff was named the 2015 Pirates Minor League Player of the Year.
