By Jason Shetler

The Pirates have announced that pitcher Guido (pronounced Gee-do) Knudson has been claimed off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.

Knudson was drafted by the Tigers as a 28th round selection in 2011. The 26-year-old right-hander pitched 59.2 innings this year for AA Erie and AAA Toledo, posting a 2.72 ERA along with a 1.22 WHIP and a 9.1 K/9. He was called up to the Tigers in August where he posted an 18.00 ERA in just four appearances. Knudson displayed a good average fastball velocity of 93.3 mph while his changeup velocity was very impressive at 89.1 mph. He should start out the 2016 season with AAA Indianapolis.
