Pirates Re-Sign Rinku Singh

By Jason Shetler

According to Baseball America, the Pirates have re-signed pitcher Rinku Singh to a minor league contract.

Singh was signed by the Pirates back in 2008 out of India. On July 4th, 2009, he made history by becoming the first Indian born pitcher to pitch a professional game in the United States. Singh underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013. He participated in fall instructionals late in 2014, but re-injured the elbow, causing him to miss the entire 2015 season. Singh has posted a 2.99 ERA in 84 relief appearances during his time in the Pirates organization. My guess is he’ll begin 2016 pitching for the Bradenton Marauders.

  1. Singh is listed on MiLB.com as active for Bradenton, but he has not pitched this season and he is not listed on the Marauders roster; or any of the other Pirates affiliates rosters. What is going on with him?
