Baseball America has released it’s list of the Top 20 prospects from the South Atlantic League. A pair of Pirates prospects made this list, which were Yeudy Garcia and Cole Tucker.
Garcia was ranked in the Top 10 at #9. The 22-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic had one of the best breakout seasons in the Pirates system this year. In 124 innings pitched with the West Virginia Power, he posted a 2.10 ERA along with a 1.07 WHIP, an 8.1 K/9 and a .204 batting average against. Garcia was named the 2015 Pirates Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Tucker’s ranking on the list was at #15. The Pirates 2014 first round selection played in 73 games this season for the Power where he batted .293 with a .699 OPS and stole 25 bases. He was above average with the glove, as he posted a .953 fielding percentage. Tucker unfortunately had a shoulder injury late in the season, which resulted in having surgery on it the final week of August. He’s expected to miss most of the 2016 season.
