On Thursday, MLBPipeline.com released the top hitting and pitching prospects for all 30 teams. Tyler Glasnow was named the Pirates Pitching Prospect of the Year while Josh Bell was named the Pirates Hitting Prospect of the Year.
Glasnow put together another stellar season in 2015. The 22-year-old right-hander began the year with the Altoona Curve. Despite an ankle injury in May, he posted a 2.43 ERA with an 0.95 WHIP, an 11.7 K/9 and a .182 batting average against in 12 starts. Glasnow was promoted to Indianapolis on August 1st. In eight starts for the Indians, he put up a 2.20 ERA along with a 1.34 WHIP, a 10.5 K/9 and held opponents to a .220 average.
Bell also started off this season with Altoona. The switch-hitting first baseman played in 96 games with the Curve, batting .307 with an .803 OPS. Just like Glasnow, Bell’s promotion to Indianapolis came on August 1st. He performed even better with the Indians, as he hit .347 with a .946 OPS in 35 games played.
