Pitcher Angel Sanchez will undergo Tommy John surgery, this according to Ryan Palencer of Pirates Prospects.
Sanchez was claimed off waivers by the Pirates in July of last season from the Chicago White Sox. The 25-year-old right-hander was the 16th best prospect in the Miami Marlins system according to Baseball America after being traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013 as part of the Ricky Nolasco deal. Sanchez had terrific numbers this season with AA Altoona and AAA Indianapolis, posting a combined 2.69 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP in 23 starts. He’ll now miss the entire 2016 season, which is really unfortunate since he seemed like someone who could have helped the Pirates next season in the rotation or bullpen.
