Austin Meadows Among Three Players Promoted to Altoona

By Jason Shetler

Austin Meadows’ agent Victor Menocal announced on Twitter that Meadows has been promoted to AA Altoona. Pitchers Tyler Eppler and Montana DuRapau have also been given promotions to Altoona, this according to Pirates Prospects’ Tim Williams.

Meadows was regarded by some as the Pirates second best prospect behind Tyler Glasnow entering 2015. The former first round selection in 2013 is having another good season this year, hitting .307 with a .764 OPS in 121 games played for the Bradenton Marauders.

Eppler was the Pirates sixth round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft. The 22-year-old right-hander has pitched well for Bradenton this year, as he’s posted a 2.58 ERA along with a 1.09 WHIP in 66.1 innings.

DuRapau has become a real diamond in the rough in the Pirates system after being selected by them in the 32nd round last year. The 5’11 righty reliever has made 42 appearances combined this season with West Virginia and Bradenton while posting a 1.40 ERA. DuRapau’s ability to limit baserunners has been incredible, as he’s put up an 0.52 WHIP.
