According to Ryan Palencer of Pirates Prospects, the Pirates have signed pitcher Frank Herrmann to a minor league deal.
Herrmann began his pro career with the Cleveland Indians as an undrafted free agent in 2006 after pitching his college ball for Harvard University. The 31-year-old right-hander signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this past offseason. Herrmann made 37 appearances for AAA Salt Lake where he posted a 4.05 ERA, a 1.44 WHIP and a 9.1 K/9. With the Pirates expected to call up some relievers in September, Herrmann gives Indianapolis an added bullpen arm for their AAA playoff run.
